We are facing a crisis

Male violence against women and girls is at crisis levels and the criminal justice system is failing to support survivors. Statistics show 618,000 women in England and Wales experienced sexual assault between March 2019 and March 2020.* Only 1 in 6 reported the incident to the police.*

To end violence against women and girls we need to reform our broken justice system and centre around the needs and empowerment of survivors. Women seeking justice after sexual violence need support to understand their rights and feel empowered to make safe and informed choices.

Our Story

Rights of Women provides free and confidential advice to ensure that, at some of the most difficult times in their lives, women don’t have to face the legal system alone. We also campaign for positive changes to the law so that ultimately more women can seek justice with confidence.

We are the only charity dedicated to providing frontline legal advice to women survivors across England and Wales, and we need your help to reach many more women who desperately need our support.

Our small team of helpline staff and volunteers support over 3000 survivors each year - women experiencing sexual violence and domestic abuse, many of whom need support to keep themselves safe and access justice - and our website provides impartial expert advice to 500,000 visitors annually.

The support is vital, and there are many more women who need our help

We know from the women who call that access to our legal advice is life changing:

“The advice you gave me previously totally changed things for me, completely changed things. The police turned around, put a superintendent on the case and started a fresh inquiry. Your advice completely changed the situation, every aspect of it.”

“You've been amazing, you've given me a lot of your time. It's amazing you're there, there's nowhere to go as a victim, I wish you were open more. There's no one else for victims to go to.”

How you can help

Please make a donation (any amount helps!) and share this page with friends and family via social media, WhatsApp and email.

With your donation we can:

  • Give more women life changing legal advice
  • Empower women to understand their legal rights so they can make informed choices
  • Campaign for stronger legal protections for survivors of sexual violence and abuse

Every donation makes a difference!

  • £10 helps a woman who has experienced sexual violence to access our specialist legal advice lines
  • £50 helps to keep a specialist legal advice line open for one hour of life-changing advice
  • £100 helps to give specialist legal advice to up to three women who have experienced sexual violence**

Thank you for raising £16,475 for survivors of sexual violence

To our incredible supporters,

I’m writing to thank you for your generous donations to our fundraiser. Together, you raised over £16,475 to help women access justice after sexual violence.

We wanted to share a small snippet of some of the heart-warming responses we’ve received from women calling our legaladvice lines, since your donations:

“It has been really good …can finally move on and draw a line.”

“You have solved so much of my anxiety. Women like me are so lost without people like you… when you are the victim there is not much support… is a lonely time so is really valuable to have someone.”

It is because of your donations that we were able to answer these women’s calls.

We are so grateful for your support and would really like to keep in touch.

Follow us on FacebookTwitter and/or Instagram to stay up to date with our work and campaigns.

On behalf of our small team at Rights of Women, thank you so much for challenging sexual violence and helping women access justice and safety.

With thanks,

Estelle, Director at Rights of Women

Update 2

With your help we can reach even more women

Thanks to your support and donations we are providing vital support to survivors of violence against women and girls to achieve justice and safety.

Last year, our small team of staff and volunteers have supported more women with life-changing advice than in any year of our organisation’s history and with your help we can reach even more women in the year ahead.

But figures only provide one part of the picture, so we wanted to share a small snippet of some of the heart-warming responses we’ve received from women who have called our advice lines:

‘I am so grateful that this service is available, you have helped reduce my sleepless nights and I feel empowered to make decisions and not feel so helpless anymore.’

“This is a life saver. It is so good that people give their time to help people who need it. There isn’t, for me, anywhere else to go to speak to someone and get advice. I couldn’t afford it otherwise. I feel a lot safer and reassured knowing that I have options and may be able to move on from him. Thank you.”
