Who am I?

My name is Frances Nicoll and I have been a female employee of Glasgow City Council for over 20 years. I have a background in information science providing research, information and quality management services as well as developing and managing information systems and services providing training for staff who use these services.

Background

In 2006, my post was severely devalued without explanation or justification while a male colleague with the same post title was unaffected - GCC dispute this. I have been representing myself through the Council's internal WPBR appeal process and lodged an equal pay claim with the Employment Tribunal in 2009 after the internal appeal was unsuccessful. Despite asking repeatedly for a detailed breakdown of hw they evaluated and scored my duties and responsibilities, nothing was provided.

Over the last decade and more, I have represented myself in various Case Management Discussions in the Tribunal and kept my case alive while other class actions have worked their way through the justice system.

However, now those cases have been completed and the Council's job evaluation scheme has been declared not fit for purpose by the Court of Session, my case is now proceeding as it is not among those which have been settled. During the last Preliminary Hearing I realised I would have to get help from a qualified solicitor as things were becoming very complex. The last thing I want is to see my case founder at the last hurdle due to my lack of knowledge and legal expertise.

What am I trying to achieve?

Since 2006 I have sought an independent review of the Council's decision and have tried every avenue available to me but have had to take my case to the Tribunal as a last resort.

How much am I trying to raise?

While I have been covering all costs myself to-date and will continue to partially fund it I am hoping to raise £1,000 for help to prepare my case and legal representation at the Tribunal Hearing where I hope to be reimbursed for loss of earnings and pension contributions.

Bonfire Night

Here we are again! Another bonfire night looming (13th so far and counting) and another delay.

Things going slower than I expected and beginning to believe my Tribunal case will carry over into the New Year now.

Stage 1 Update

Well, things are finally happening!

After the Stage 1 Hearing last Friday we now have 12 weeks to prepare reports and produce evidence for the next stage of the Tribunal. Experts will be involved! So, I will be spending my evenings blowing thick layers of dust of records dating back beyond 2006.

So relieved we have a timeframe now. 12 weeks seems like nothing compared with the last 12+ years.

Also reached my initial £1,000 target but now need to work on reaching the £5,000 stretch target so please share my CrowdJustice website with people/organisations who might be interested in helping.

Will keep you posted of progress.

My thanks to everyone who has helped to date and for all your kind words and encouragement!

Countdown to Stage 1

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Close to target now thanks to all the friends and all you anonymous pledgers willing to support me. Just 9 days to go - the same for my Stage 1 Hearing at the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Will keep you posted...
