Baktash's story

Baktash* provided frontline assistance to the British armed forces in their fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Help bring Baktash's family to safety

Baktash and his family have been targeted by the Taliban due to his assistance and allegiance to the UK Government. The Taliban have a policy of finding those who have worked for the British government and executing them and their families. He successfully claimed asylum in the UK in 2013. However, his family remain in Kabul, Afghanistan. Recently, his family’s home was broken into and weapons were fired.

His family have a history of being targeted for their strong adherence to Western values. His father was tortured and murdered for educating women. The situation is worsening in Afghanistan, as the Taliban are seizing more and more cities. Kabul is under threat of being taken over by them.

Baktash needs to bring his family to the UK. The UK Government must protect them, as Baktash and his brother have worked for our country and the fight against the Taliban. They have helped save countless British families from them. He needs your help to save his own family.

How can you help?

To do this, Baktash needs to fund his legal claim and Home Office visa application fees, but does not have the funds to do so. Time is of the essence as the Taliban are in Kabul; the risk to Baktash’s family worsens every day.

Update 1

Baktash Baran

Thank you and an update

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting Baktash's campaign so far.

Baktash is touched by the number of people in his adopted home rallying to his cause to reunite his family.

We have now submitted visa applications for all Baktash’s extended family members. Given the urgent need for a decision we have given the Home Office 48 hours to comply with our submissions.

Baktash has heard from his siblings in Kabul. The family were forced to escape their hidden residence when it was reported to the Taliban. We are now deeply concerned for their immediate safety.

In the event that the Home Office do not grant Baktash’s extended family members urgent leave to enter the UK we intend to bring a judicial review against the Government’s policy for all Afghan interpreters and their families.

Sources on the ground report that the Taliban’s current practice is to go from house to house seeking to punish those associated with foreign jurisdictions such as the UK.

Today, we are extending our fundraising goal and appealing again to your generosity to reunite Baktash’s family and to call on the Government to change their policy.
