Hi, I am K. I was offered a senior role by a multibillion-dollar international company—a job which I gave up my settled life in the UK for. I entered into a binding Contract of Employment with the company. My role was very much a global position where I would be working around the world. 

The terms of the contract were simple I was to have three month trial period, a monthly salary and full medical coverage (on completion of my trial period).   The company also agreed to refund all my moving and relocation expenses. I relied on this, gave up my flat of many years and arranged for my personal goods to be packed and shipped abroad.  At the point that I entered into the Contract of employment I made it very clear to the founder of the company that I was only interested in a professional, business working relationship.

After I signed the contract the Company Founder began calling me at late hours, bringing up conversations of a personal nature, asking intrusive questions about my love life and whether I was dating.

He complained to me about his “jealous fiancée.” He said “You’re so pretty she’s going to be jealous of you.”  When I spoke about how photography was my hobby he said he wanted to take me to a hotel overlooking the Niagra falls to photograph, but that “if we are alone I [he] will get you [me] pregnant.” He was unable to maintain the boundaries of a normal, professional working relationship and wanted to take advantage of me.

He began suggesting flying me off to the company office in Abu Dhabi, then Ottawa and finally he settled on relocating me to Malta. I was very excited and  exclaimed “I am jumping up and down, I can’t wait to start work!” he interrupted me and said: “the only way I want you to jumping up and down, baby, is on top of me.” I was terrified and shocked.  This became even more disturbing when he said that I would be staying at his home in Malta.  He then asked if he could sneak into my room at night. He was clearly very disappointed when I made it clear that this was not acceptable. 

He was unreliable and his behaviour erratic which scared me, but, I felt it was too late to back down from the job offer which I had accepted, as I was afraid he would try and reclaim the training and relocation costs from me.

At the time I felt that enduring the sexually harassment was the only way to survive.  I felt so vulnerable because I had already given up my flat, job, and life in the UK. He knew I had nowhere to go. He knew of my personal and financially vulnerable circumstances, and he considered that it was okay to take advantage of me because of his position of power.  He thought that he would get away with it. I refused his advances and insisted on maintaining a professional working relationship. When it became apparent to him that I wasn’t going to accept this ‘extra’ role, he started to ignore me and discarded me. He froze my work email and deleted my profile on the company website without even coming forward about it and speaking to me. There was no communication sent to me to terminate my employment contract. I had up to then performed work he assigned to me while in the UK that he overlooked.  I have not received any salary, and my shipping and packing costs for my relocation were never refunded or paid to the suppliers.  I ended up homeless, indebted to the shipping company, with no-where to go.

I am traumatized, and I am not sure when I will be able to recover or trust another male employer again. I wish to vindicate my position before a tribunal and hold him accountable. What he did was spineless. 

I'm asking for you to help me reach my legal fees to be able to issue my claim and take this man and his Company to a public hearing. 

Dangerous men like him who are in positions of power seemingly can get away with this behaviour over and over again. They should be held accountable and stopped. I ask of you, kind men and women, to help me to fund my legal case. I hope that my case will encourage other women to come forward early, knowing there is support for them out there.
