I am a gay man, and a victim of torture from Uganda.

Who am I?

I am a gay man, an asylum seeker. I have been tortured in Uganda for being gay and have been fighting deportation back to Uganda for over 20 years.

I live in constant fear of persecution in Uganda on account of my sexuality were I to return.

I am raising funds to fund my legal fight to stay in the UK and avoid returning to Uganda. I can't do this alone - so please contribute what you can and share this page on social media

I just want to live in the UK in peace and avoid a return to Uganda where I know I will be in under constant threat from the authorities simply for being gay.

Case Background

I have a long and complicated immigration history. I first arrived in the UK in 1995 and claimed asylum on political grounds In 1996 I was arrested on a criminal charge in the UK before my asylum claim was decided. I was convicted and in 1999 I was deported to Uganda.

In Uganda I was arrested and tortured by the Ugandan authorities. I was forced to confess to being gay and was tortured as a result. I managed to escape from the authorities and return to the UK in 1999.

I have been fighting to stay in the UK ever since.

In 2011 there was an attempt made by the Home Office to remove me to Uganda. Unfortunately, the removal was unlawful and I suffered physical and mental damage during the attempted removal.

I brought a successful civil damages claim and then submitted a further fresh asylum and human rights claim in 2015. This was refused in August 2017 with an in country right of appeal against refusal being given. I appealed this decision and this appeal was originally listed in July 2018, however the appeal has now been adjourned until November 2018.

How much am I raising and why?

I am raising £3,000 to help cover my legal costs. I am represented by Bindmans LLP Solicitors.
