I’m Alicia and I have an amazing son with SEN (Special Educational Needs). He wants to be the best Carpenter he can be and I couldn’t be more proud of his positivity, and until now I had absolute faith that he would reach this goal. Fast forward to 2020 and Surrey Council has voted to remove transport from September 2020 from special children like mine aged 16+ and under 5s, and from September 2021 from some children with SEN aged 8 in mainstream schools.

The withdrawal of transport for children and young people sends a clear message that they do not value the education of children with SEN and it puts them at even more of a disadvantage in terms of life chances.

Disabled children deserve an education too, but because specialist schools are often long distances away from their homes, they are reliant upon council-funded transport to get them to school or college. For parents with children already at other schools, it is impossible to be in two places or even three places at once, especially when those places are miles apart. For many children and young people, no transport means that they will not be able to access their school or college.

We need to raise £3000 to get the case off the ground and try to get these policy changes reversed, if we reach our goal with your help, we can then ask for Legal Aid to fund the legal challenge.

We are 60% of the way there!

Thank you for all your shares, likes, retweets, word-of-mouth referrals, pledges and support with the campaign so far. It is very much appreciated.

Today we reached 60% of the total and we have just over 2 weeks to raise the remainder. I know we sound like a scratched record but please can you continue to share and tell people about our case as we desperately need to hit the target as soon as we can.

We were interviewed on the local Surrey Radio "Eagle Radio" today and they have a great article on their site about the case here Transport Policy change article

We have another radio interview booked with BBC Radio Surrey on Thursday and our local news site Surrey Live has also produced a great piece so we are doing our best to get the message out there see: Surrey Live Article
