Back in December, the UK government caved to relentless pressure from Donald Trump and the pharmaceutical industry and agreed to implement permanent, damaging changes to the safeguards that stop the NHS being ripped off by drug companies.
These changes will drive up the price the NHS has to pay for medicines. It will end the independence of the body ensuring we get value for money on drugs – politicising these life and death decisions for the first time. And experts believe the deal with the US could lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of NHS patients – more additional deaths than COVID – over the next ten years. All to inflate big pharma profits and please Donald Trump.
We believe that the legislation the government has used to change drug price controls is unlawful and undemocratic. Challenging it in court is a unique opportunity to stop our NHS being ripped off by big pharma.
Why we need to crowdfund
This legal case is being brought by Just Treatment and Global Justice Now. We are two small non-profits who cannot afford to take the government to court by ourselves. So we are crowdfunding to raise the money needed to proceed with this vital legal challenge.
We initially need to raise £10k as quickly as possible to get the case off the ground and in front of a judge. Then, if and when we get the judge’s permission to proceed, we’ll need to fundraise again to cover the further legal & court costs – so we are setting our stretch target at £50k.
What your donation will fund
The money raised on this page will be put towards the legal and court costs needed for the case.
In the event that the case cannot go ahead for some reason, or we end up winning the case and our costs are not as high as expected, any remaining unused funds will be distributed between Just Treatment and Global Justice Now to support ongoing campaign work, including to protect our NHS from Trump’s attacks, and stop big pharma profits being put before NHS patients’ lives.

We’re moving to the courts!
After sending a pre-action letter to the UK government outlining our case, we received a response which - unsurprisingly - seeks to justify the way they have made changes to NHS drug price controls.
After discussing this with our lawyers, we remain convinced that the government has acted unlawfully and that there are strong grounds for a Judicial Review. So we have pressed ahead and filed in court!
Now we must wait to hear if we get court permission for a full Judicial Review. In the meantime, we need to raise the funds needed to cover our legal and court costs.
