Standing Up for Fairness and Equality in the Workplace
Standing Up for Fairness and Equality in the Workplace
This case is raising funds for its stretch target. Your pledge will be collected within the next 24-48 hours (and it only takes two minutes to pledge!)
I am bringing an Employment Tribunal claim against my former employer, seeking justice after what I believe was serious mistreatment at work.
I worked for a charity that provides services to the LGBT+ community - a role I took on with pride because it reflected my lifelong commitment to equality, dignity, and human rights.
After raising concerns about equality, inclusion, and staff wellbeing, I believe I was subjected to unfair treatment and victimisation at work. These events had a lasting impact on my health, confidence, and career, but they also strengthened my determination to stand up for fairness and accountability.
My Employment Tribunal hearing is due to start on 27 October 2025 and will run for ten days. Funds raised through this campaign will help meet legal costs already incurred and those required for representation during the hearing.
Any support - whether through donations or by sharing this campaign - is deeply appreciated. Your help will ease the financial burden of pursuing a complex Employment Tribunal case and help raise awareness of the challenges faced by those who speak up for fairness and accountability at work.
About the Case
For over two decades, I have worked in education, community development, and human rights - supporting others and promoting equality, dignity, and inclusion. In 2019, I joined a charity that provides services to the LGBT+ community, a role that reflected my long-standing commitment to those values.
Call to action -
What began as a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a vital cause I cared deeply about became an extremely difficult experience. After raising concerns about equality, inclusion, and staff wellbeing, I believe I was subjected to unfair treatment and victimisation at work. I was suspended for several months and eventually dismissed - actions that I believe were disproportionate, unjustified, and discriminatory.
What are we trying to achieve? -
These experiences have had a profound and lasting impact on my health, confidence, and career, but they have also strengthened my determination to stand up for fairness and accountability. Over several challenging years, both before and after my dismissal, I have worked to clear my name and to challenge what I believe were unfounded allegations made against me. During that time, I have raised serious concerns about how certain incidents were handled and about the fairness and integrity of the organisation’s response. In my view, the internal procedures did not reflect the standards of transparency and good practice set out in ACAS guidance, as well as the broader principles of equality, respect, and duty of care that every employer should uphold.
What is the next step in the case?
My case is not only about what happened to me, but about helping to ensure that others are treated with dignity and fairness at work. Speaking up about equality, integrity, and accountability can be daunting and isolating, yet these issues - from complex internal procedures to unequal power dynamics and the personal cost of doing the right thing - affect many employees across different workplaces. By pursuing this claim, I hope to encourage greater fairness and accountability, and to give others the confidence to speak out when they encounter injustice, even when the process can be emotionally and financially demanding.
How much we are raising and why? - £500 £1000
Pursuing justice through the legal system can bring significant emotional and financial strain, and I am deeply grateful for any support that helps to meet these costs and ease that burden. I have had legal representation throughout and have personally funded my case to this point, covering the costs of preparing the case - including disclosure, evidence, and witness statements. Some of these costs remain outstanding, and further expenses will arise for legal representation during the hearing. Funds raised through this campaign will go toward meeting these existing and upcoming costs.
Any support - whether through donations or by sharing this campaign - is deeply appreciated. Your help will ease the financial burden of pursuing a complex Employment Tribunal case and help raise awareness of the challenges faced by those who speak up for fairness and accountability - not only within charitable organisations, but in workplaces more generally.
Please note: this case is currently before the Employment Tribunal. All statements reflect my personal experience and opinion, and the outcome is yet to be determined.
