I am an apprentice nurse and a healthcare assistant working for the NHS. I was born in Afghanistan and I came to the UK alone as a child after my father was violently taken from us and my family were targeted. I was eventually given humanitarian protection in the UK and have been working and studying hard ever since.

I am looking for funding to apply to the Home Office to bring my two young sisters and my brother, who is still a child, to the UK, so they can be safe from harm. When the Taliban took over in August 2021, they came to my family's home. They were looking for information about my uncle, who had worked for the previous government and had fled. They were angry when they found books in English at the house (my sisters were learning English). They ransacked the house, beat my family members and made death threats. My Mum and siblings went on the run and for some time I was unable to contact them. Sadly, I now know that my oldest younger brother was arrested by the Taliban and my Mum sadly died shortly afterwards. She had survived cancer but the shock of this was too much for her. My kid brother and young sisters are now alone, homeless, vulnerable and really afraid, with nowhere to go and no one to help.

It is very hard for me to save for this application while I am still completing my nursing degree and I need to start the application as soon as possible as my family are at risk of further harm from the Taliban every day that goes by. I am therefore asking for anything you can spare to help me get my family to safety.

I am trying to get the funds together as quickly as I can to pay my solicitor, so she can start working on the case. She wants to submit an adult dependent relative application, providing evidence that there are compelling compassionate circumstances. It will not be easy and there are no guarantees of success but she is very experienced and has won similar cases in the past. If we win, my sisters and brother can join me in the UK. My brother will be able to go to school and my sisters will be able to work and study and follow their dreams in safety. They love the sciences like me and are interested in a career in nursing or medicine but will be happy to do any job when they first arrive. If we don't manage to get them to safety, I fear every day that my sisters may be sexually assaulted or forced to marry Taliban fighters and that my little brother may be arrested and tortured and never seen again.

Thanks to the Myra Davis Memorial Fund and many kind and generous donors, we have managed to raise some £5676. I can't thank you all enough. Unfortunately, my solicitor advises me that given the current climate at the Home Office, the best way to proceed is an 'adult dependent relative' application and that a cheaper 'family reunion' application is less likely to succeed. The Home Office fee is £3,250 for each of my sisters and £1,538 for my brother. I would also need to pay £960 per family member to my solicitor. I therefore still need £5242 to cover the basic costs.

On top of this there will be extra costs for evidence, such as TB certificates (variable costs), DNA testing (variable, approx. £1350 in total) and a home inspection report (approx. £80). The case may well be initially refused and have to be appealed, in which case there will be £3000 plus VAT to pay for the appeal fee plus £140 court fees for each family member. Home Office fees and court costs etc. could also potentially rise. I would therefore be really grateful for anything that you can give to help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and God bless you

Appeal now submitted - seeking funds for barrister

Dear All

First of all, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has donated towards my siblings' case. Particularly, I would like to thank a friend from the Quakers who made big donations a few times. May God bless you all and your families.

As you all know, the Home Office refused my siblings' initial application. Now, we have made an appeal to the tribunal court. The cost of the appeal was £1140 which was paid by a friend from the Quakers.

On the 26 of March, my solicitor submitted my statement and all of the additional evidence to the Tribunal. Now we are waiting for the tribunal to give us a date for the hearing. My solicitor advised me that it may take up to 6 months or a year for the tribunal to decide on the date for the case to be heard in court. Once we get the hearing date, the barrister will charge between £4000-5000 plus VAT.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated for this. I would really appreciate the kindness of everyone to help me reach the fundraising target to  pay the barrister. My siblings' lives depend on it. We are really grateful to everyone who made it possible to get this far. My solicitor advised me that we have a good chance of winning the case in court. So, please donate what you can and share the fundraising page with friends and family.

Wish you all happy Easter, and may God bless you.

Funds needed for court costs

Hi Everyone

As you all may know. I submitted my siblings' application back in December 2023. Me and my siblings are very thankful to everyone who made this possible.

The Home Office has now made their decision. Unfortunately, they have refused the application, which means I have to go to court.  When we first planned the application, my solicitor did warn me that it would be likely to go to court, and she said that was where she thought we could win this, where I can make my case in person. But of course I found it very difficult to get this news.

I am very grateful to a kind friend who has already paid the fees needed to submit the appeal in a few weeks, a total of £1140. I can't thank him enough.
I still need to pay my solicitor between £4000-5000 plus VAT in instalments over the next six months while we wait for a court date (likely in six months or more). This will be for costs related to going to court, including the fee for the barrister who will represent me.

It breaks my heart that I do not have enough money to cover any of the cost.
I am asking once again for any financial support that you may give me to reach the funds to submit the application to court.

Any amount you give will be invaluable to me and my family and highly appreciated.

I have not told my siblings that their application has been refused. As I know, it will take their hope of staying alive and devastate them more.

Thank you all

Thank you again!

Dear All,

I would like to say thank you sincerely to those who have donated recently. This latest target was to cover the outstanding Home Office fees for my siblings' application and for the upcoming NHS fee for my brother.

I will keep you all up to date as soon as the Home Office makes decisions on my siblings' application. I really hope it won't happen but I may ask for help again if the case gets refused initially and goes to court.

Thank you again for all your kindness. Please keep us in your prayers.

Application submitted!

I'm very happy to inform everyone that my solicitor has submitted the application for my siblings.

I would like to thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart to everyone who donated towards the application.

I could not do this without your kindness.

Unfortunately, due to the currency difference, we had to pay the UK Home Office more than the listed amount at the end..

I have to pay £232.21 more to my solicitor as soon as possible.

I would hugely appreciate urgent help with this. I had some savings, but unfortunately, I had to spend  on the family visas and get them somewhere they could submit the applications.

It's been a very difficult process with lots of challenges.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. Particularly, one of my friends who has made very generous donations on a few occasions. I can't thank him enough. He's live saver.

My solicitor has also informed me that it's likely I will have to pay a £500 NHS fee for my brother. So I have left the fundraising target at £6,500 (taking into account approx. fees and taxes) but the immediate target is for the payment due to my solicitor, so to bring the fundraised amount up to 5,935 on here (approx. taking into account charges and taxes).

Thank you to everyone once again. I would update everyone once the Home Office makes the decision on my siblings' application. Please remember us in your prayers.

Submitting application very soon

Dear All

I want to thank you all for your support and kindness so far.

Me and my family are for ever grateful to you all. We are very lucky to have friends and know that kind people like you. It shows there's someone out there who still cares about us.

I would like to update you that with your kind support, my family have been able to submit DNA samples, and I now have evidence that they are my siblings.

I don't want to make my family's current location public for their safety.

However, I would like to let you know that we are now planning to submit the application in two weeks' time.

I am still urgently looking for a bit more help with costs so I can submit the application. My solicitor says I will need 500 pounds spare in case of currency differences when paying the Home Office fees and also probably 500 pounds more for my brother’s NHS fee. Funds donated here will go straight to my solicitor.

Once again, thank you for your support and keep us in your prayers.

Funds urgently needed for DNA testing

Update from Lizzie, a friend of 'Afghan Apprentice Nurse' here (with permission):

Thank you so much to everyone for your help so far. Big shout out to some very generous Quakers among others.

Unfortunately, we've just heard from the charity Together Now that they are currently inundated with requests for help with DNA testing costs and therefore cannot assist.

We've therefore updated the fundraising target to cover approximate DNA costs. Once we receive the exact invoice from the DNA testing service this may be adjusted/increased. We need to move fast so please could you consider making an additional donation and sharing this fundraiser?. Thank you to everyone again!

Hopefully you'll get a personal update soon with more details. The family's situation on the ground is complex and difficult.

Thank you! Funding target reached!

Hello to everyone

I would like to inform everyone that with your generosity and kindness, the fundraising target has been reached.

Me and my family are very grateful to each one of you for your financial support and blessings.

Now, the next stage would be for my family to undergo DNA testing. Unfortunately, there isn't a DNA test centre accepted by the Home Office in Afghanistan, so my family needs to travel to a testing centre in a neighbouring country.

I'm hoping to receive funding for this from a charity, but it depends on  the charity's funding streams. Therefore, I may need to fundraise a bit more.

I will keep everyone updated on the progress of the case.

Once again, thank you, and please keep us in your prayers.

May God bless you all, and thank you again.

Dear All,

I would like to update everyone on the progress of my family application.

Currently, I have paid my solicitor fees, and she started to work on the case.

I want to thank everyone who made this possible. I couldn't do it without your help and kindness.

I'm very grateful to all of you.

I kindly request to share the fundraiser site with friends and family.

Thank you again so much
