Summary

The  proposed Greater Cambridge Local Plan is going to final consultation in August 2026, including a massive new town at Grange Farm (A11/A1307 junction) featuring 4,500 homes and approximately 35,000 square metres of warehousing and office space.

This new town proposal was included at a very late stage and its selection appears to be unsupported by appropriate evidence, including how the massive impacts on traffic and community would be mitigated.

SAVE, a community group, and Abington Parish Council have appointed solicitors to submit a robust response to the Regulation 19 consultation, supported by expert evidence. Your help is needed in funding this important intervention – before the development is ‘locked in’ in to the Local Plan by the Councils.

Who are we?
S.A.V.E (Save Abington Village Environment) are a group of residents from Little and Great Abington in rural South Cambridgeshire who, like you, love our countryside, our environment, and our historic villages. We are deeply concerned about the sheer scale of the proposed Grange Farm development and the impact it will have on our local environment and infrastructure.

Call to Action

We need to raise £30,000 by August 2026 to fund solicitors and planning experts who wil submit an evidence-led challenge to the inclusion of Grange Farm in the Local Plan. 

What are we trying to achieve?

To stop Policy S/GF (Grange Farm) from being formally adopted into the Local Plan. This proposed allocation has been added to the Plan at a very late stage, apparently without due consideration or up-to-date evidence as to why it was selected, how it could be delivered and how the infrastructure dependencies would be resolved.

What is the next step in the case?
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning announced in early July that the Regulation 19 Consultation dates for the Local Plan will be 3 August to 25 September 2026. SAVE and Abington Parish Council have appointed Richard Buxton Solicitors to prepare a Regulation 19 response incorporating expert reports from planning, transport, hydrology and other specialists. This is our last chance: there is no opportunity to submit new evidence after the Regulation 19 consultation closes.

How much we are raising and why?
We need £20,000 to cover the remainder of the fees for the solicitors and planning experts, of which we need to raise at least £5,000 by the end of August. All donations via CrowdJustice go directly into our solicitor's client account to fund this legal work. If we hit this goal, we will set a Stretch Target to cover the next steps of the fight.
