Who:
We are a group of 160 (and more) parents who are deeply concerned about the recent decision to drop the IB Diploma Programme at Tonbridge Grammar School sixth form.

Summary:
We wish for the school to honor it's commitment to our Daughters to study the IB DP. We believe the School has been rushed into a knee-jerk decision without discharging their duty to consult with parents and students (and teachers), without adequate risk assessment, and in a manner that raises governance concerns. We have tried for 7 weeks to engage with the School leadership on this.

Goals:
We need the school to:
  • Pause the implementation of this decision in the short term
  • Organise a period of consultation with parents to examine options to retain the IB going forward

First, we will issue a Letter Before Action as part of a Pre-action protocol. This should give the school pause and bring them to the table to discuss. If the school still fail to engage with us, we reserve the right to petition for a Judicial Review of the School's flawed decision making process.
The school can resolve this matter at any stage by agreeing to pause and consult.

Funding:
Getting good legal advice and doing a Pre-action Protocol for a JR is not cheap but it is worth it. This can't rest on the shoulders of a handful of parents, we need all affected parents who support the aims, to chip in. Our daughters deserve it. The initial costs are estimated £3k - £5k.

There may be more costs if we are forced down the JR process, which is why we have a £10k stretch target, as a reserve.
For context, TGS offer the IB Diploma for free, which otherwise costs £41,500 per annum at the competing private school in Sevenoaks.
Please spread the word.
Thank you so much for your donation, every pledge of support counts.

Courage and Honor

Errata: Three Letter Acronyms (TLAs)

Demand a Consultation to Retain the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Tonbridge Grammar School.

I must also correct the aberrant apostrophe, Its.  If only English (and a Language, and Maths, and a Science, and an Art) were required as part of a broad curriculum at my Sixth Form 34 years ago ... Alas I did STEM A-level subjects.

Gotta love those TLAs!
