Resist the Fascists, stand with JCWI
Resist the Fascists, stand with JCWI
Authoritarian policies are tightening. The far right is mobilising openly. Language that once sat at the fringes is now repeated in Parliament and printed in headlines.
Migrants and refugees are being turned into scapegoats for political gain.
This rise in racism attacks the most vulnerable.
People seeking safety. Families rebuilding after trauma.
Children trying to grow up without fear. They are at the sharp end of policies designed to deter, exclude and punish.
Could your compassion stand up to the hatred vulnerable families are facing right now?
Our lawyers represented a family of four who were unlawfully detained for over three years on Diego Garcia in brutal conditions. Three years in limbo. Three years of harm.
One family member is a survivor of state torture, including physical and sexual violence. Another lives with recurrent depressive disorder, anxiety and panic attacks.
They finally reached the UK, believing they had found refuge.
One night at 10.34 pm, masked individuals began throwing rocks at their home.
Glass shattered. Windows splintered.
The attackers tried to break down their door. The family hid upstairs.
Two children, aged 14 and 8, crouched in fear while adults tried to keep them quiet and calm.
The rocks kept coming.
They called JCWI, and we called the police, who did not attend. The attacks continued through the night and into the next day. The final rocks were thrown around midday.
The next morning we started work to have the family moved - they are now out of that house and we are still fighting to move them somewhere they can have safety and security, somewhere they can live without fear and begin to heal, because everyone deserves the right to feel safe.
At JCWI we fight for a better world. We have hope, because we are resisting, mobilising and fighting back - and we know people like you also have hope for a kinder, more compassionate world.
Here is how your donation can make an urgent impact:
Defend people facing detention, deportation and family separation.
Together we can support thousands every year, fighting removals, challenging detention, and taking the Government to court when it breaks the law.
Support clients when they lose their homes or need accommodation, food and when they need safety.
Expose how these policies echo fascist playbooks, using the media to shift the narrative and challenge the demonisation of people who move.
Speak for the majority of people in the UK who believe everyone deserves a decent life.
Who reject cruelty.
We want neighbours, not scapegoats.
Support more people to secure their right to stay, to settle, to rebuild their lives with stability and dignity.
Campaign against inhumane policies like the ending of refugee family reunion and the state-sanctioned human trafficking scheme run by the UK and France, known as 'one in one out'.
We are joining with communities across the UK – from campaigning with undocumented migrant workers in Birmingham, to helping local groups in East Sussex support those in new asylum accommodation, to breaking our fast with a Community Iftar in London – we will rise up with a people-powered movement.
We are fighting back. And we are winning battles:
- Last year, we saw far-right and racist politicians targeting asylum seekers in their housing. While we challenged these in the media, our amazing lawyers and support staff worked to get people out of unsafe and poor-quality asylum accommodation.
- We are campaigning against the state-sanctioned human trafficking scheme run by the UK and France, known as 'one in one out'. We organised an email, phone and social media action against Air France, the first airline to deport people under the scheme, who then stopped the running the deportations. Now we have sent joint letters to all the airlines facilitating these racist and violent removals, calling on them to stop as well.
- We organised a visit to the grim and inhumane new site in Crowborough the government is using to house asylum seekers. We published footage and weare co-ordinating with the local support network to provide legal advice for those inside.
- We are challenging the cruel and inhumane policy to permanently suspend right to family reunion for refugees in the UK
- In March we will be running a community Iftar to build connection, community and solidarity by partaking in a shared meal in the month of Ramadan, and by providing tangible support through our immigration legal advice.
But without the generous donations of ordinary people, we wouldn’t be able to do this work. Demand for our legal and advocacy work is rising sharply. As the Government brings in more hostile policies the need for our campaigning increases. And we are stretching every resource to meet that need.
That’s why we’re running this fundraiser – so that we can be powered by the movement, for the movement.
We are at the centre of this fight.
And part of a growing movement against the racists and fascists.
Where they fund hate, we fight for hope.
Where they are backed by billionaires, we are powered by people.
Join us in our struggle.
Please donate and stand up for what's right.
