I'm Sue and I'm desperately trying to save my son from dying.

I'm Sue Goodwill and I am trying to save my son’s life.

Thomas' story

My son is Thomas McMeekin. He is 26 years old. Thomas is tetraplegic with a long list of complex medical needs. He was given a prison sentence in 2016 for causing death by dangerous driving. His prison sentence is not due to end until next year.

He is currently in ICU in a coma on a ventilator. He is very seriously ill. Since December 2018 he has been admitted to hospital several times with sepsis or infections. He has spent over 500 days in various hospitals since he was sentenced.

His body is now so weak that his life is at risk. We do not know when he will wake up from the coma or what damage has been done to his brain. He has a grade 4 pressure sore, infected hip bone, dislocated hip, lung damage and has suffered cardiac arrests.

We are desperately trying to get him home where my family and I can provide the care he needs with the help of healthcare professionals. We do not want him to die in prison or in a hospital with prison officers constantly present.

Why are we raising funds?

We are trying to raise funds so his solicitor can prepare an application for compassionate release on medical grounds. Thomas has appealed against his sentence unsuccessfully and has already had one compassionate release application turned down. It is not easy to persuade the Secretary of State to grant compassionate release.

We are looking to raise around £2000-£2500 so that the best possible application can be made quickly.

Thank you for reading. Every single donation may help to save my son's life.
