Seeking Clarity on UK Micromobility Seizure & Destruction Powers
Seeking Clarity on UK Micromobility Seizure & Destruction Powers
I'm Ben - a musician, father, and small business owner. My privately owned electric unicycle was seized by police and now faces permanent destruction - without any court hearing.
Summary
Police have statutory powers to seize certain vehicles.
But my case raises a focused legal question: do the relevant regulations lawfully permit permanent destruction of private property without independent judicial oversight?
This proposed Judicial Review will examine whether the destruction regime is ultra vires — meaning beyond the powers granted by Parliament — and therefore unlawful.
Call to Action
We are raising £6000 to fund initial legal advice, drafting, and the start of Judicial Review proceedings.
If you believe state powers must remain within the limits set by Parliament, please contribute and share this page.
What Are We Trying to Achieve?
This is not a general challenge to road traffic law.
It is a narrow, constitutional question:
Has secondary legislation gone further than the Act that authorised it?
If successful, the case could clarify whether police forces across the UK can destroy micromobility devices through administrative process alone — or whether Parliament intended stronger safeguards.
What Is the Next Step?
We will ask the High Court for permission to bring a Judicial Review.
The Court will first decide whether the legal argument — that the destruction power is ultra vires — is arguable and should proceed to a full hearing.
How Much We Are Raising — and Why
£6000 covers:
Initial specialist public law advice
Drafting of the pre-action letter
Preparation of the Statement of Facts and Grounds
Court fees
We are committed to transparency and will provide regular updates as the case progresses.
