We have one giant Norwegian electrical substation covering 16 acres, and now they want us to have two more giant Swedish substations, 4.5 times the size of the one we already have! We say 'enough!'

My name is Jenny Smedley, and I moved to Norfolk in 2014 to enjoy retirement in a bungalow with unspoiled field views close to my grandchildren. After we had moved in (we did not know it was to happen as our searches did not show it) a Norwegian company called Statoil desecrated our little village with a 16 acre substation for their off-shore wind farm. People think off-shore wind farms are not so intrusive, but their infrastructure is. It wasn't wanted of course as views and character were ruined by it, but the community thought they had to do their bit for 'green' energy. Turns out they had opened the door to 'green' industrialisation. In 2016, when the first substation wasn't even finished,  a state owned Swedish company (Vattenfall) came to announce their plan to build two more monsters (4.5 times the size) which would make a total of around 60-70 acres of substations, most parts of which will be 80 feet high. Too much to fit into one village of only around 150 acres. Nowadays such projects are not decided by local councils but by the Planning Inspectorate, and this opens a huge door to complex and often expensive ways to protest the development.

We are surrounded by several other villages, and there is nowhere to build such a thing so as not to not encroach on peoples' homes and lives. The area Vattenfall have selected has historical flooding nearby which covering with concrete will make worse. It is productive arable land, and full of wildlife, being next to an ancient woodland. House sales in Necton have already become difficult and they don't even have planning permission yet! The new substations will be just 500 metres from one farmer's house. There is NO compensation, despite the ruined lives and property devaluation.

One family (the Wrights) moved here with their son, who has already had several serious heart operations, because they wanted him to have the best quality and longest life possible. Now their plans to convert the loft of their bungalow are scuppered, as from the upstairs they would have a full view of the substations. They are also VERY concerned (as are all parents) about Electromagnetic fields (the size of which Vattenfall are being coy about) and their possible effects on the health of their son.

This company have behaved despicably, isolating a small part of the village, figuring they would have little or no voice, but that area is part of our village and we are not going to abandon them or consider them a worthwhile sacrifice to save the rest of the community! We are not NIMBYs as we already took one substation for the country, but why should this village take all the pain?

We have fought this new invasion since last October when it was announced, and amazingly, given that we are totally outnumbered and outgunned, succeeded in making an impact on this multi billion pound company, but now we need more legal help, which is costly. We have suggested an alternative site to Vattenfall for their substation, but need to convince the Planning Inspectorate it would be better. It has no nearby villages and is on the same pylon line, right next to Vattenfall's cable corridor, and the land is for sale. We need an expert (which don't come cheap) who can survey the alternative site, to make sure Vattenfall have no excuses and can't take another 100 acres of our farmland by compulsory purchase order (CPO). We need your help! PLEASE!

If we succeed it making Vattenfall move their project (they complain it will be more costly there, but their profit should not be the excuse they are allowed to use as they will already be making billions of pounds including subsidies from the government - ie the taxpayer) then the plans will probably go through. If we don't get help to succeed then they will go ahead and completely despoil a whole community with their Viking tactics! The only thing standing in their way if we don't stop them is the Planning Inspectorate, and that is not likely. We need people power now, before it's too late!
