Donate so we can provide legal aid to prevent deportation and injustice.

A.Ss.I.S.T. (Asylum Seekers Information Services Team) is a civil non-profit association based in Greece providing free information services and legal aid to those seeking international protection and, more recently, to those already benefiting from international protection in Greece.

Experience to date shows that interview preparation, the delivery of public service information and the presence of legal representation contributes to the adherence to a fair process. It is anticipated that this reduces the length of time spent in the overall process - time spent living in poor conditions.

What’s at stake?

If returned to his country of origin, our client, Claude, is at serious risk of being persecuted. Arriving in Greece from an African state in 2019, his background, as recorded by the Greek Asylum authorities, informs of abduction, severe torture and the threat of imminent death. Claude, against all odds, escaped just prior to the time set for his execution. The applicant stated that he was targeted by certain state officials, who are still in power in his home country.

Claude’s application for international protection in Greece was duly submitted then rejected post-interview and again on appeal. It is our legal team’s opinion that neither of these decisions from the Greek authorities are properly supported and that there are very strong grounds to have these decisions cancelled.

What can A.Ss.I.S.T do to help?

To cancel the decisions, our legal team must lodge an appeal in the responsible Three-Member Administrative Court of First Instance in Athens within 30 days of the second decision (Art. 109 of Law 4636/2019). The clock for this appeal started ticking over 7 days ago.

What can you do to help Claude?

This case requires immediate attention, A.Ss.I.S.T.'s lawyer is providing legal assistance and we are seeking your immediate support.

By donating to this case, you will be contributing to the fees mandated by the Greek Government for lawyer and court costs and travel costs (Chios to Athens return trip) for the A.Ss.I.S.T. lawyer to represent Claude.  If this appeal is successful, Claude will have a new chance at a future free of fear. If it fails, we (A.Ss.I.S.T.) and you (our donors) will have provided the assistance required for the client to exercise his legal right to processes prescribed by law but that few can access due to the costs also prescribed by law.

Disclaimer: In order to better protect our clients, we refrain from exposing information about them that could reveal their identity and potentially expose them to the risk of persecution. To this end, pseudonyms were used.
