I'm April a mommy of 5 from Cannock. We are crowdfunding for our son who sadly passed away in 2014 and is having a new inquest.

Who am I?

My name is April, a mommy of 5 from Cannock. In 2011, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy called Jonnie.

Jonnie's Story

Shortly after Jonnie was born he was taken to a special care unit as he fell ill. After being transferred to another hospital and after many tests and treatments, we were told he had a deletion of one chromosome which left him blind, with poor muscle tone and needing to be tube fed.

Jonnie received cornea transplants, ear operations and he had lots of chest infections during his first 2 years due to having an NG tube fitted a lot. Jonnie's weight became a problem and he couldn't tolerate milk based products as he was confirmed lactose intolerant so was fed on potato-based food liquid. After a couple of trials of milk based products at least six times he vomited and went dusky so was always reverted back to potato-based feed.

Despite this doctors still wanted to trial again so we agreed to have the trial done in hospital under supervision. That's where it went wrong.

Jonnie went for his trial on the 11th of August 2014 and shortly after the new feed was administered Jonnie became very poorly, needed oxygen, went blue and developed a rash. Unfortunately Jonnie became too poorly and we sadly lost our boy just hours after this new feed started.  We have concerns that Jonnie was not monitored properly and that the staff caring for Jonnie did not consider he could be having an allergic reaction to the feed.

Why are we raising funds?

Our aim is to  raise enough money to cover the cost of travel expenses and accommodation for our legal representatives, who are representing us on a pro-bono basis, at Jonnie’s second inquest which is listed for five days.

We were unhappy with the outcome of the first inquest which we believed did not consider all the evidence. Subsequently an Independent Review was commissioned into Jonnie’s death and following a lengthy legal process, the first inquest was quashed and a second inquest ordered. Over five years later, we finally have a second chance to get answers as to why and how Jonnie died.

What's at stake?

We hope more protocols are put into place in the future to prevent this from happening again. No parent should have to go through this and we want to try and make a difference big or small!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love April (Jonnie's Mommy)
