Diversity and inclusion means inclusion for lesbians in LGBT spaces!
Who am I
I am a lesbian who joined the Rainbow Chorus (RC), an LGBT choir in Brighton, approximately 2 years ago in order to enjoy singing and to be a part of the local gay/lesbian/LGBT community.
My case
On Sunday 16 June 2019, I was informed by the Chorus that my membership had been suspended due to comments I was alleged to have made about transgender people, which were “experienced as” transphobic. My subscriptions were stopped and I was barred from participation in all rehearsals and Chorus events, including the annual Summer Concert. I now face a disciplinary hearing at which my future membership of the Chorus may be terminated permanently.
To this day, I have not been told the identity of the persons who lodged the grievance against me.
There is no evidence that I have said or done anything transphobic, or hateful towards any other group. There has been no attempt at mediation.
I am raising a legal challenge to revoke the decision of the Chorus to suspend me. Organisations cannot take disproportionately punitive action against members for unspecified ‘crimes’ without regard for due process.
Diversity and inclusion means inclusion for lesbians in LGBT spaces. If you agree, please help by donating to my legal funds.
