a member of the community of Hykeham Lincoln fighting to over turn a Lincolnshire County Council decision to grant a hazardous waste site of asbestos so near to four schools and new homes

About the Case:

We are fighting to overturn Lincolnshire County Councils decision to allow a private waste treatment company, GMB Ltd, to change the classification of its current "benign waste treatment plant" to a Hazardous waste treatment plant.

This decision if not overturned will allow GMB Ltd to treat hazardous and toxic waste including asbestos, just a few hundred metres from homes and schools at the heart of our community.

The resulting planning decision will allow:

150 additional heavy goods vehicles per day through Boundary Lane, which is a small country lane and not fit for this scale of commercial traffic.

There will be huge toxic dust clouds made during the treatment of waste which will have water sprays to keep the dust down.

The facility is being built adjacent to a local water course, the drainage cannot cope with the local car washing business, so there is a very real danger of water contamination.

There is the possibility of toxic spillages, week-long burning fires and massive explosions which occurred at the same company’s site in Louth and by other waste plants all around Lincolnshire in the last few years.

The HUGE reductions in house values within a one mile radius of the site.

We are coming together as a local community with the aim of overturning this decision to protect the health & wellbeing of the local residents, their children and grandchildren and to ensure that our area remains a desirable and SAFE place to live, work and raise a family.
