Please help my family find safety.

I am a British citizen, originally from Afghanistan. I had to flee the country 20 years ago to escape the Taliban and am grateful for the safety I have found in the UK.

When I fled, I had to leave my family behind. My father was a doctor who worked with international NGOs and my mother was a teacher and women's rights activist. My younger sister had grown up with the promise of women's education and rights under the coalition-backed government following the US/UK invasion, but sadly was never able to complete her university degree when Kabul fell again to the Taliban in August 2021.

Since the Taliban returned to power, I have been trying to help my parents seek safety so they can live free from persecution and my sister can resume her studies again and have a future. They escaped initially to Russia, where they were fled temporary protection only, and from where we sought to apply for visas for my parents and sister to join me in the UK as my adult dependent relatives. My parents, who are elderly now, both suffer from serious physical and mental health problems and my mother uses a wheelchair. The family are traumatised by living through decades of war, and by their recent experiences seeking to flee persecution. They are dependent on me financially, practically and emotionally, but it is impossible to give them the help they need from so far and while their living circumstances are so dangerous.

While my family's applications were initially refused by the Home Office, we appealed the decisions and the immigration tribunal ruled that my parents and daughter had a right to family life in the UK with me. We were overjoyed that we would finally be reunited in safety in the UK. But now the Home Office has appealed the Judge's ruling to a higher court and we need help funding our legal representation for this appeal.

Recently, my sister was given an ultimatum to join Russian forces fighting against Ukraine or face deportation to Afghanistan. With nowhere else to go, my family applied for visas for Iran, one of few countries granting entry to Afghans, and fled there earlier this year.  Soon after their arrival, the conflict between Iran and Israel broke out and my family found themselves once again in a conflict zone. Tragically, in Iran's crackdown on foreigners as a result of the conflict, they have now been sent back to Afghanistan.

I am terrified now for my family's ongoing safety, but I must keep fighting to bring them lawfully and safely to the UK.  Please give any support you can to help fund the legal fees to fight the Home Office appeal.

Thank you!
