Hello - my name is Kirstie, I am founder of Gma's Community Kitchen C.I.C. I advocate for those seeking asylum in Lambeth & I adore this family whom I have supported since their arrival in 2022.

We’re raising funds for legal representation for a mother and her four wonderful children (15, 10, 6 and 3 years old) whose asylum claim was unfairly refused. They fled unimaginable circumstances in the place they called home, and returning is not safe.

For 19 months, we have sought legal aid to ensure they receive a fair hearing. Their initial appeal had to be attended without representation, with all four children present. This was an intimidating experience for all but luckily the judge granted an adjournment, recognising that the mother could not fairly represent herself given the complexity of the case.

Due to lack of legal aid resource and capacity, we have turned our sights to securing a law firm to represent them and are very grateful to Saltworks Law for taking this case on and providing us with manageable fees.

We need to raise £1,700 to cover their legal fees ahead their Case Management Review Hearing on 24th September, with a stretch target of £2,400 inclusive of Counsel fees for their final appeal hearing. Your support could help this family finally access the legal representation and fair hearing they deserve.

These funds are a sign of hope for the family, surviving in a hostile system and experiencing a very isolating and desperate reality. They do not have access to the funds needed - the mother has had no right to work in the three years they have been here in the UK, whilst raising four children and recovering from her own experiences. They are a beautiful family unit, who have become a part of our community always happy to help and share. Their home is filled with love despite their struggle and uncertainty of what is to come.

They deserve a fair chance at appealing the Home Office's decision, a decision that stands between them and a stable future here in the UK.

They deserve protection from the dangers they left behind, that they will have to face once again if we their appeal is lost and they have to return.

They deserve a win in a immigration system set up for people without the privilege of access, to struggle and fail.

Please join us and support them in their time of need.

Thank you for reading and donating whatever you can, big or small, to ensure this family has access to the legal representation and fair hearing they deserve.
