Campaign to Fund Judicial Review on Halal Slaughter Practices

Every year, millions of animals in the UK are slaughtered using ‘Halal’ methods and then sold to the general public, including non-Muslims. The law currently grants a religious exemption that applies only to Muslim and Jewish communities. Yet, Halal meat now accounts for over 20% of all animals slaughtered in the UK, despite Muslims making up only about 7% of the population. This disparity is largely due to lighter regulations on Halal slaughter, making it cheaper and rapidly expanding its market share.

Our judicial review campaign demands:

1. Strict enforcement of the religious exemption so Halal meat is supplied only to those who observe the faith.

2. Full compliance with consumer protection laws, ensuring accurate product descriptions and transparency.

3. Fair competition by preventing Halal slaughterhouses from undercutting traditional slaughter methods through regulatory loopholes.

We are seeking to raise £50,000 to fund this judicial review. All administration and legal work are being undertaken by dedicated volunteers at no cost.
