My name is Jay Mack and I'm a comedian. Since early 2023 I have been subjected to a sustained campaign of stalking, harassment and malicious communications. In summer 2023 I had to start legal proceedings against an individual, who I've never met, after he tracked down my address and turned up at my property.

Now this individual has brought proceedings against me, citing my satirical stand up comedy material as evidence for his allegations. Now I need to raise £25,000 for legal expertise, so that I can defend myself from these untrue allegations.

This case is important because it's been well established that comedy is under attack from intolerant, censorious ideologues who seek to destroy freedom of expression by any means necessary for no other reason than they are subjectively offended.

I believe my case serves as a “warning” to all up and coming comedians, because if I'm prosecuted for my material I believe this would intimidate more comedians into silence for fear of potentially being imprisoned and/or fined for simply telling jokes. Up and coming comedians like myself will be unable to continue to express ourselves freely, earn a living or grow our audiences if we are being summoned to court by individuals who are subjectively offended by our artistic expression.

This well documented cancellation tactic is something which we’ve all seen play out in the media, and it has often been successful, as its aim is to intimidate & silence comedians, musicians and artists. It's not just established comedian's like Andrew Lawrence or Alistair Williams or Sammie Pressdee who get cancelled, it's up and coming comedians like myself who are also feeling the effects of this ideological choke-hold as my artistic expression is placed into the legal realm, by an individual who I have never even met or spoken to.

With your support I will defend my right to write and perform the comedy of my choice and continue to write, perform and champion free speech in comedy.

The next step in defending my case is a hearing which will take place in January. We are attempting to raise £2,500 as an initial amount with a stretch to £25,000.

Thank you all.
