More than 2700 people have been arrested for opposing the unjust proscription of Palestine Action since the ban came into force on 5 July 2025. Now hundreds are facing terrorism charges for silently holding up signs that said "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action" as part of the Lift the Ban campaign.

More than 500 people have been charged so far. Currently, most of the people charged have been given less than 30-minute trials, where the state attempts to label nonviolent protesters as "terrorists" or terrorism supporters just for peacefully holding a sign. These trials represent the disproportionate use of the Terrorism Act against freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly.

Defend Our Juries (DOJ) is coordinating legal representation to all those who need it with a mix of Legal Aid, pro bono, and crowdfunding. Individual defendants instruct lawyers to represent them, with coordination help from the DOJ Legal Team. The money raised through this CrowdJustice page directly funds the legal fees for individuals who are represented by Commons solicitors.

**There are several crowdfunders set up by Defend Our Juries, each with a different law firm to fund the cases separately and ensure funds go directly to paying the defendants’ legal costs, while remaining open for donations.**

Campaign Update

The Court of Appeal has recently made the decision to be on the wrong side of history and continue the oppression of human rights in the UK, out of step with international law.

With over 1,000 Defend Our Juries arrestees in England having been charged so far, all cases have been adjourned to the 26th October 2026 for a mention hearing. During this hearing the courts will decide how to proceed with these cases. The actions of the judicial system and the government are clear: the UK is intent to quash the democratic right to dissent.

Unfortunately, every procedure is costly, a factor those seeking to criminalise democratic protest are no doubt keeping their fingers crossed will price us out. Let’s prove them wrong.
