Jas, a young mother had achieved legal migration status (following initial student leave and after a complex trafficking claim). She is the carer of a partner with a brain tumour (and has epileptic fits) who has already been granted legal leave to remain in the UK. They are the parents of a 5 year old son, LG, who was born in the UK. 

On August 12^th 2026, the Home Office irrationally rejected Jas’s application to extend her leave to remain in the UK under the Family and Private Life.

With a terminally ill partner and their young son (who can neither leave with his mother nor be left in his father’s vulnerable care, any decision for Jas to be removed would leave this family in an intolerable situation. 

Please help Jas raise £3000 to support the legal battle in appealing against this decision, which will require essential social work evidence and legal representation. 

Background 

-       Jas arrived in the UK as a student in 2012, having been forcibly sent with her ex-husband as her dependant by her former in-laws. During her early university days, she suffered as a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her alcoholic husband, finally rescued by her university to a safe space, and was relocated safely.

-       Despite her ex-husband’s persistent attempts to locate her, he was unable to get to her and returned to India. However, Jas continued to face constant threats from him and her in laws long after. In 2017, she was granted further leave to remain on grounds of human trafficking.

-       Following Jaspreet’s hospitalisation in 2014 for TB, she entered into a long-term relationship with an old childhood friend, an accounting student in the UK, H G. The support he gave her during this time and the close bond they developed was, and remains to this day, Jaspreet’s lifeline.

-       In 2018, HG was tragically diagnosed with a brain tumour, and a vital operation affecting him with epilepsy and seizures. In 2021 there was a further brain cancer diagnosis from residual tumour, which has continued to worsen despite multiple surgeries and intensive treatment. Without Jas’s support and care, the daily seizures, memory issues, speech arrest episodes, chronic pain, and numerous other difficulties from which he continues to suffer would be both physically and psychologically unmanageable.

-       Jas and HG’s 5 year old son, LG, is very attached to both of his parents. Due to his father’s ill health, for which LG himself has expressed acute concern, he depends heavily on Jas’s love and care.

-       The Home Office’s decision of 12 August 2026 is completely devoid of any rationality or consideration for HG and LG’s future welfare, and of the need for the family to remain together.

What we need from you

-       The family is currently financially vulnerable and destitute, and cannot shoulder the necessary legal expenses for the Appeal. In addition to the legal fees, Jas has to fund expert reports on both her husband and son’s care needs, to make further submissions for her Appeal.  It is hoped that an application also can be made  for their son’s British citizenship.

-       The appeal must be lodged by the 26^th of August.
