My name is Tay Washington. My sister and I were two of the many victims in the attack at the Charlottesville, VA "Unite the Right" rally.

My sister, Micah, and I were driving home from a friend's house. We ended up waiting at a stop sign right next to the "Unite the Right" rally in downtown Charlottesville. We were brought to a complete stop, unable to move forward and unable to turn around because of all the rally attendees and protesters that surrounded our car.

Suddenly, my sister and I were slammed hard into the steering wheel and dashboard. We thought a bomb had exploded. Only later did we find out that our car had been hit by James Alex Fields, who intentionally crashed his car into the crowd, with the goal of killing us and others around us. As a result of the accident, I have a broken ankle and my body is bruised all over. Micah is severely traumatized by what happened to us, by the blood and bodies that suddenly flew onto our our car and by all the other terrible things happening all around us that day. We're both having a very tough time emotionally, but working hard to help each other heal, day by day, emotionally and physically.

We're suing the man who plowed his car into us and we're suing the organizers of the "Unite the Right" rally for inciting these terrible and violent acts. The individuals and groups who attended and promoted this event, which include white supremacists like Jason Kessler, Richard Spencer, David Duke, and The Daily Stormer website, intentionally incited violence and chaos – they knew exactly what they were doing and they knew exactly what the result of this rally could be.

Properly bringing a lawsuit like this will not be easy and will involve a wide variety of legal costs that we have to find a way to pay for. My sister and I want to be a voice for all of those people who were affected by Saturday's events – but we need your help to go the distance. Since experiencing those traumatic events, we have met a lot of loving, strong people who are also standing up to make sure love will overcome hate. With your support, we know we can bring legal justice to those who hurt our community and help others to heal the way we're learning to heal now.
