Im Charlie-James’s mother and im crowdfunding to help raise funds for legal representation at an educational tribunal for my son to get him a specialist provision school

Hello there,

I am Charlie-James’s mother Michelle, Charlie-James is 1 of 4 of my children, he has a sister called Emily who is 12 years old & two brothers, Dylan who is 7 years old & Freddie who is 3 years old.

Charlie-James & Freddie both have complex medical needs & disabilities that require a lot of support & care both from myself & family but also a lot of professionals involved also.

The reason why I’m here on crowd justice is to help raise funds for a barrister to represent my son at an educational tribunal to take on our local authority council Bromley regarding his Ehcp not being fit for purpose & to be able to get Charlie-James the school he rightfully needs & deserves to support him & help him back into education.

Charlie has been out of education for 3 years, I applied for his Ehcp back in 2019 & we still do not have a school for Charlie, he has been having hospital home school tuition which is 6 hours a week.

Charlie has recently received his autism Diagnosis in October 2021 after 9 years of fighting by me for this.

Charlie has also been given a diagnosis of sensory processing disorder, motor planning(praxis issues)

His cognitive assessment placed his full IQ on the 8th percentile which is very low this has identified he has an intellectual learning disability.

He is currently in year 6 but is working significantly below age expectancy at least 5 years behind of a child the same age as Charlie but the local authority seem to maintain that Charlie is academically able so many schools have refused him based on that fact that he is too academically able compared to children in the current peer group.

Call to action - I am trying to raise funds so I can have legal representation at the tribunal as my legal aid doesn’t cover the tribunal itself & also trying to raise funds so I could pay for the independent specialists who carried out independent assessments on Charlie to stand as witnesses at the tribunal to really give us a good shot at winning this tribunal so Charlie can get the education he so rightly deserves.

What are we trying to achieve? -I am trying to get my son the right level of support and access to the education he is entitled too. I am Trying to achieve charlie returning to full time education & help with his autism. Charlie has been isolated for 3 years not mixing with anyone outside of our home life, with your help this could help him achieve all these milestones he is missing out on & getting the school that can meet his needs.

What is the next step in the case? - through legal aid charlie has had independent assessments to help improve his Ehcp, next steps would to be secure funding so we can have the independent specialists be witnesses for the tribunal in February 2022

How much we are raising and why? - Would like to raise at least £2500 to cover solicitors fees & costs for the tribunal itself and for the independent specialists fees & costs. Also any other reports from independent specialists which may need to happen through choice of school

Thank you

Michelle & Charlie
