Stand with Nurse Amy - I Lost my Job for Mocking the Trans Flag

My name is Amy Gallagher. I am a registered nurse. For over a year, I have been under investigation at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLAM) for tweeting the word 'Hell' above a Progress Pride flag co-branded with McDonald's. The tweet was quote tweeted by Jordan Peterson.
In addition to this, there was one other tweet in which I criticised 'non-binary' art and the concept of 'non-binary.' In a reply tweet, I stated, "non-binary essentially means ugly". That's it, just these two tweets. I have not criticised or targeted any individuals and did not express my views in the workplace. My social media posts were criticisms of gender ideology and modern culture.
When the NHS saw these posts, I was put through disciplinary proceedings during which the Clinical Service Manager told me my colleagues did not feel comfortable working with me. I was forced into a non-patient facing role.
At the time I made these social media posts, I was preparing to stand as the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) London Mayoral candidate. Standing up to 'woke' ideology and advocating for women's sex based rights were my key policy points. My tweets were preparing the groundwork for my future political campaign. I believe that in our democratic society, a NHS nurse should be able to stand for election & express her lawful political opinions.
During their hostile investigation, the NHS told me when I post on social media I do so as one of their nurses and so would need to acknowledge any impact on a patient. They asked me if I thought I had betrayed patient trust by criticising gender ideology and promoting gender critical and classical liberal ideas. They also questioned my nursing practice because I didn't believe that a person could be "born in the wrong body". Unfortunately, SLAM joined Stonewall's "diversity champion programme" in July 2020.
Given the hostility I would have received from staff if I returned and the stress of the investigation I had no choice but to resign. My criticism of gender ideology - my protected beliefs under the Equality Act 2010- has cost me my job.
I believe the NHS's treatment of me is unlawful. As a result, I am taking them to employment tribunal.
I've already incurred around £10,000 in legal fees fighting this case and a crucial preliminary hearing is coming up in May 2025. I am represented by Elliot Hammer of Branch Austin McCormick LLP, who represented the Free Speech Union on the Higgs v Farmor's School case below.
I believe that these two very important recent cases will pave the way to me being successful at tribunal:
• Higgs v Farmor’s School (Court of Appeal) — confirming protection for gender-critical and related beliefs in the workplace
• The Supreme Court ruling that transwomen are not women (For Women Scotland vs Scotland Government)
My case will be a test case for whether the NHS takes seriously the Supreme Court's decision that sex is binary and that a 'transwoman' is not a woman. People are either biological men or biological women. It is not transphobic or offensive to say so or to criticise gender ideology.
I also hope that the NHS takes on board the criticisms in this Times article, which criticises the seeming inability of public sector organisations to negotiate a legal settlement with gender critical women, despite the overwhelming judicial view that attacking us will not be looked on favourably in the Courts and the huge waste of taxpayer's money fighting (and losing) against brave GC women.
Now, I need your help. I have been under this investigation for 14 months. Only in February 2025, around the time of the Higgs v Farmor's School judgment outcome, did the NHS withdraw the disciplinary investigation against me. Whilst a massive relief, I have been under the threat of being found guilty of "wrong think" for such a long time.
I’m standing up, not just for myself, but for everyone who believes in freedom of thought, freedom of speech, and the right to participate in democracy (and even stand in an election) without being punished for having gender critical views.
