Who are we?

My parents, Mr & Mrs Mohammed Ikram and I, Khalid Ikram, live in a small, green, leafy suburb of London called Sudbury Town.  My parents bought our home 31 years ago and have raised myself and my brothers here. We went to local schools, played in the Children’s playground in Butler’s Green and my parents are well known and liked in the Community.

I started this campaign to help my family and the residents of Sudbury Town correct an injustice that has occurred.

Our Case

The Inspectorate of Planning recently granted permission for a residential home, next door to our home, on the east side, to operate as a Place of Worship, a Mosque.  My parents have brought up my brothers and I as Muslims and we all continue to practice our faith.  This is not about religion or the right to worship, this is about my family and I having the right to peacefully enjoy our home in a residential area.

The Inspectorate of Planning failed to take into account that the two residential homes immediately next to us, on the west side, are also Mosques.

My family and I are now sandwiched between two Mosques.

We understand that the Mosque Community need and should have a Place of Worship to practice their faith but not at the loss of our human rights.  Brent Council should have done more to assist the Mosque Community in finding a suitable venue, with parking, in a non-residential area.

We have filed a Judicial Review in the High Court to challenge the Decision made by the Inspectorate of Planning and hope to quash their decision.

We believe that it is necessary to proceed with this Judicial Review not only to protect our human rights but also to protect the children’s play area, the green space of Butler’s Green and the beauty and character of Sudbury Town for all residents to enjoy.

Why is this case important?

As UK citizens we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure the Inspectorate of Planning always gives careful consideration of the impact their planning decisions will have on neighbouring homes, local residents and the whole Community. Inspectors have a duty of care to follow due process and procedures and failure to do so must be challenged in the High Court.

We have limited funds and kindly ask our Sudbury Town Community and the Citizens of the UK, to donate to our fund.

How much are we raising and why?

We have taken Expert Advice and just filed the case in the High Court.  The cost to date has been £5,000.  This includes Expert Advice and filing the case in the High Court.   We are now waiting for permission.  The cost of permission could be £4,500 if the Judge requests a Permission Hearing to be held.

Please help us to reach the next level of our quest for justice by sharing this campaign with family friends and donating what you can.

The story so far...

Dear Supporters, Friends & Family,

Firstly, my family and I would like to thank you all very much for your kindness and support.  It has been a tough time and we would not have survived this without your generosity, encouragement and prayers.

The story so far…..

Stage 1 we took Expert Advice from our Solicitors, who advised us that we have a strong case to challenge the Secretary of States’ decisions.

Stage 2 was Filing of the Case in the High Court.  This involved submitting the Grounds of the Case with supporting evidence.

Stage 3 all parties involved submitted their responses.

Stage 4 was the Permission Stage.  This involved a Judge reviewing all the documents and responses to decide if the case should be fully heard by a Judge or not.  We had to pass this stage for our case to be fully heard in the High Court.

We have some good news to share with you!!

We have successfully passed the Permission Stage!!!

Yes, Permission has been granted!

The Judge granted Permission for our case to proceed to a Substantive Hearing.

Without you all, we would not have reached this point!!!

All your kind donations have been deposited directly into our Solicitors’ Bank Account and we reached our target of £5,125!

So a big big thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!

What next?

Stage 5 is a Substantive Hearing.  It is a full hearing of the complete case.  A High Court Judge will review in detail all the information over 1-2 days.

The date of the Substantive Hearing has not been scheduled, as yet.

We will keep you all up to date during the next stages.

We have a new crowdfunding target of £5,000, which we need to reach by Thursday 21 March 2019.

Please kindly share our page on your Facebook and Twitter accounts and help us reach our goal.

We hope to win this fight for Justice for our family and all those who live in Sudbury.
