This is a page for Martin. Well known to us all as purveyor of fine goodies and teller of tales at parties. He's a family man, a business man, a slayer of dragons. He wears a fine Mohawk, when it's not been chopped off for a good cause.

Well - this time Martin is the good cause. He's in a spot of bother with the law.

If you've seen his displays you will know that Martin uses a musket. In 2017 he needed to renew his shotgun licence, but forgot that he had a number of historical offences. He's been charged with 'knowingly or recklessly making a false statement to obtain a firearms licence'. This is a serious offence - it potentially carries jail time, he may be refused future visas if he needs to travel for work.

Those who have been following Martin's discussion of this case on Facebook will know he's been offered a caution. He didn't accept it. Maybe he should have in your opinion. But without specialist legal advice you can't make those decisions, and that's what this is about.

Martin's one of the good guys, and he needs help, help that only a specialist can give and that comes with a price tag. He has found a criminal solicitor who can advise him, but has requested at least £500 (plus VAT) to even look at the papers.

At some point every one of us has or will feel that they are up against something bigger than them, that they don't have the tools to face. This is our chance to tell Martin he's not alone. We don't know how this will turn out. This isn't necessarily a campaign to fight for one man's innocence, though there is a principle at stake - fair play. With your help Martin can get the advice he needs to make the best decisions for him, his business and his family. Even if it doesn't go the way he wants he will know he wasn't alone. Surely that is worth a fiver.

First Hearing

Apologies for the radio silence everybody, there's been a lot happening behind the scenes though.

However, today was our first hearing in Court, with a solicitor - thanks to you. Martin was able to be advised on his case and represented in Court. He has decided to plead Not Guilty. I know everyone wants to keep up to date on the case, but please understand that we won't be discussing the solicitor's advice on this page - that is between Martin and them.

What, however is obvious is the affect that having that advice has had for Martin. If you have been reading his facebook today you will see that. Please do remember that you have helped with this. We can't say thank you enough.

But - now we've decided to fight the case it's time for a stretch goal. This will be to cover:

Solicitors fees for the full and final hearing

Prosecution costs, should Martin be unsuccessful (Likely to be around £600 at most)

If we raise enough - medical reports

This is a lot of money, we know. And we will make the best use of everything we get.

Thank you again.

Dear Everyone,

Thank you for your continued generosity.

A quote and advice has now been received from Andy. Martin is currently considering that advice. Please do not contribute any further funds at present.

Wowowow!

Well - Wow - That's all we can say - we've hit our first stretch goal you lovely bunch of people.

Thank you. On behalf of Martin and his team we cannot thank you enough.

We emailed the Solicitor (Andy) last night to get some quotes regarding how much full representation in Court was likely to be, we are currently awaiting that information. As soon as we have a better idea of the total costs for this case we will be amending the stretch goals. If you don't feel comfortable donating right now - that's fine, please keep watching this page for updates.

All cases are a journey, and it can be a lonely and frightening one. You have made sure that Martin knows he is not travelling alone. As they say on TV...priceless....

Funding update

Dear All - Thank you.

We have written to the Solicitor to confirm we have made enough to cover his initial costs.

Sadly, this may be just the beginning - so we are very grateful for your continued contributions. Remember that CrowdJustice do not give any money to anyone except the instructed solicitor - so nothing will be wasted.

This has been a very emotional time for Martin and I know that being able to get the advice he needs has taken a huge weight of his mind. So thank you.

Goal Hit

Dear All - thank you for your generosity today - we are overwhelmed by your generosity.

We now have enough to start getting advice, but please do keep putting the word out as we need to make sure we can secure representation for the whole of this case.
