I'm a family man and war veteran, who has suffered mistreatment at the hands of the MOD and DWP.

Who am I ?

My name is Dave Corrigan. I am a a war pensioner who was injured in Iraq in 2003. I was medically evacuated back to the UK but left stranded on my return with no proper access to the medical care I needed. No one had even informed my wife that I was home or that I had been injured.

On account of this—my time in Iraq and my treatment when I got home—I suffer from PTSD.

My case

In July 2015, I was accused of benefit fraud on my war pension by the DWP and MOD. I was taken from my home and interrogated about the matter for a full day with no access to food or my medication. My wife and daughter were left in tears watching my mistreatment. The distress this caused me was not even considered by those involved. No one bothered to check if a war vet, diagnosed with PTSD,  was fit for such an interview.

I was dragged through the courts for 18 months before the case against me was completely dropped. During this time I was threatened with prison, losing my job and my home and my marriage has suffered terribly. My wife has been badly affected by the ordeal and has had to take medication to deal with the stress.

Why is this important?

This isn't just about me and the horrendous treatment that I have endured - I want to make sure that this can never happen to another injured veteran. It's hard to believe that, after giving so much for our country, our veterans are being treated like this.

Why am I raising funds?

I'm raising funds to take legal action against those accountable for my treatment to find out how and why this happened to make sure that it never happens again.
