Please help us raise £2,000 for legal advice to determine whether our case for a Judicial Review is strong enough to challenge Haringey’s sell off of Hornsey Town Hall. 

We think the case is strong and want to keep fighting to save our much-loved community asset from being sold off to a private developer. This is our last chance.


Stop the sale

Hornsey Town Hall Community Interest Company is a group of local people who believe that the sale of Hornsey Town Hall and Green to the Far East Consortium is a bad deal.

The bid that won FEC the deal changed beyond recognition by the time that they applied for planning permission. This should invalidate the procurement (sale) process, so we want this tested in the courts. 

Please help us get legal advice about launching a Judicial Review to stop the sale if it is not legal.


Our vision for a better future

  •  Keep the town hall and green in public ownership

     
  •  Provide  a decent amount of social rent housing (FEC are providing 7.5%, Haringey’s Local Plan calls for 40%)  

     
  •  Give Haringey a sustainable and thriving community arts centre  

     
  •  Offer affordable workspace for small businesses

     
  •  Build much needed new housing in the car park that respects the Conservation Area

     
  •  Retain £millions of profit from the sale of new housing within the council’s budget – not lining the pockets of a tax-haven based developer.

We think the sale to FEC is a BAD DEAL because:

  •  Haringey’s independent viability assessment of the scheme valued FEC’s profit at £27 million with a hotel valued at £20 million. Haringey will receive just £3.5 million  

     
  •  Our conservation area will be blighted forever by the building of TWO huge (7 storey) tower blocks

     
  •  Our public green space has been sold off to a private company

     
  •  Only 11 out of 146 units built on publicly owned land will be social housing  

     
  •  The independent viability assessment says that FEC should be putting £14.5million into affordable housing, ie: building about 40 affordable units

     
  •  We’re not getting the world class arts centre with guaranteed community use that the council promised

     
  •  Over 70 small creative businesses, employing over 100 people, will be kicked out.  



A better outcome

We know there is a desire for the future of Hornsey Town Hall to be resolved after decades of inaction. But proceeding with a sale that no-one benefits from is not the way to do it. 

There can be a better outcome – but only if we stop this one!



The Judicial Review

Pursuing a Judicial Review (JR) costs time and money. We are all local people volunteering our time because we believe Hornsey Town Hall is worth fighting for. But we also need money to go to court!

We have lawyers –Leigh Day – who have offered their services on a no win, no fee basis. They have told us that we have to get expert advice from independent barristers to test whether our case is strong enough to take to JR in the High Court. 

For this we need to raise £2000. If the barristers think our case is strong enough to proceed, we’ll need to raise £16,000 to take this to the High Court. This covers the barristers and other court costs. 

Once we’ve got the advice, we’ll let you know if we’re going to proceed. 

Here’s hoping that we can launch the JR and achieve the best possible future for the town hall and our community. 

This is a BAD DEAL.

Our initial target has been met - barristers will be engaged

 We reached our target of £2000 in just 33 hours. We always knew there was still a huge body of support to achieve a better outcome for the Town Hall than a sale to the private sector.

We now have enough to pay for the barristers’ detailed advice. If they think our case is strong enough, we’ll carry on crowdfunding in a day or two to raise the balance of £20,000 to take this case to the high court.
